Emily Whitehurst
Monday, October 26th, 2009Emily Whitehurst, otherwise known as Agent M, has been the lead singer in a couple bands, first Tsunami Bomb, a California punk band, and then The Action Design when Tsunami Bomb broke up on cordial terms (something which doesn’t often happen in music, but is ever worth striving for). Agent M comes from a family of musicians and is still performing today.
Emily was born in 1979. Her brother Logan Whitehurst was also a musician and the founder of Indie rock band The Velvet Teen. She actually worked a little with him; he designed the album cover for Tsunami Bomb. He was also the one to introduce Emily to Tsunami Bomb after their original female vocalist left the band. In order to give her more mystique and stage presence, she was given the name Agent M, which she kept throughout her singing career with Tsunami Bomb and continues to be known by, though in The Action Design, she has gone back to her normal name. She loves Green Day and The Smiths, calling them her greatest musical inspirations and has even said that she would love to do a duet with the lead singer of Green Day.
Both Tsunami Bomb and The Action Design have done compilations with other bands, which makes them even more interesting, beyond their crisp sound and easy dance rhythms. The Action Design did a compilation with Seaweed, Beat Union, Guttermouth, and The Bouncing Souls. They also went on the Warped Tour and The Action Design has been touring all over America with a great deal of success.
Emily Whitehurst has enjoyed a great deal of success in both Tsunami Bomb and The Action Design because she enjoys her music, she had the fortune of good family connections, and more importantly, she maintains a positive attitude, especially for a punk band, and her and her band always work on their music until it is perfect-sometimes taking six months or more just to write the songs and then sometimes six weeks to record, depending on the schedule of the recording studio. The most important things are to enjoy the music and be persistent in finishing albums.
